Best. First. Full. Week. Ever.

Our first full week of school is coming to an end!  All of us fifth grade teachers were talking the other day about how much we love this group of students.  They're so respectful, honest, and hardworking.  They stick up for one another, and aren't afraid to help out whenever help is needed.  Thank you parents for your hard work in raising them right!

Here's a few reminders for this upcoming week:

~ We've started our "American History Madness" project here in school.  While most of the work for the project will be done here at school, I am encouraging my students to seek out resources outside of the classroom as well.  The Woodford County Library would love to hear from you!  Make sure you tell them that you're working on a history project for Simmons Elementary!

~ All "Back to School" paperwork is due tomorrow!  I made sure each student knew what they were missing today and will send home extra copies tomorrow if needed.

~ Don't forget about your extra-credit 50 States and Capitals quiz tomorrow!  It's one bonus point added onto your lowest grade at the end of the nine weeks for each correct answer.  Sing the song.  Trust me, it'll help!  (Click here to see the full version cartoon)  You've also got a Science quiz tomorrow, so study hard!

~ Your first "deposit" will be put into your bank account tomorrow.  Your "login" name is your first name in all lowercase letters.  Right now, your password is the name of the "county" you live in.  It'll be changed to your lunch number soon.  We will let you know when your password is changed.  If you are in Mr. Piercey's class, click here to access your bank account.  Click here if you are in Mrs. Burchett's class.  You can always find your bank account by clicking the buttons up the top of my webpage, too, if you'd like.

~ Mark your Calendars: our Washington, DC 5K Road Race will be on Saturday morning, November 3rd.  Thank you to all who have volunteered to help.  We will be sending home some information about that soon.  We're thinking of calling it the RUN4DC... thoughts?  Feel free to comment at the bottom of this post if you've got any other suggestions (click).
We'd love if you ran with us, too!  My personal goal is to finish in under 20 minutes (and to beat Mr. Caudill in the process!)  What's yours?

Phew, I think that's it!  Next week, we'll be spending a little time studying the Preamble to the Constitution.  Some of you might be familiar with the old School House Rock song from back in the day...

...Well, I found the hip hop remix!  Check it out below:

Thank you all for everything you do,
