Enjoy Your Break!

 Students and Parents,
After the break, we're going to be sending home a letter with your child explaining how much money your child still owes on their Washington, DC trip.  We made a TON of money at our Run for DC 5K, so it's looking more and more like the total cost of our trip will be reduced significantly.  After our next Fundraiser (which will be at the end of January), we will let you know what we still need in terms of payment.  And no, we still don't know what that Fundraiser will be yet!  I've had a few of you email me with suggestions, but we're still open to more ideas!  No idea is too crazy!

We're also trying to put together a White House tour while we are in our nation's capital.  In the past, this is not something which we at Simmons have had the opportunity to experience.  Due to heightened security, we are going to need you all to fill out a form on your child that we will send to DC for background checking purposes.  This will be sent home on Monday as well.  And parents, we do apologize, but due to the White House having limitations on group sizes, it's looking like only your child will be allowed on the White House tour.  Sorry!  We will let you know if this changes at all.  We'd hate for you all to miss this opportunity, too!

Our class government met together for the first time this week.  Of the nine bills that were proposed by Congress, four of them passed and have been sent on to the class President for either his approval or veto.  Supreme Court, I hope you're ready for some discussion. I can tell you that some of the ones that passed are not in line with the Simmons Handbook!  They just might be "unconstitutional"!

Here's a clip from the PBS Documentary, We Shall Remain.  The entire film tells the story of different Native American tribes and their interactions with the American culture. The clip you will watch tells the story of the first Thanksgiving from the perspective of the Wampanoag Native Americans.  If you're interested in watching the entire documentary, it is available on Netflix instant play.

I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving Break.  Enjoy the time that you all spend with your families!
